On Friday, we went to see the midwife (MW) for my regular four-week appointment and our first ultrasound! What was supposed to by my 19-week check-up became 20 weeks because all of the measurements on the ultrasound concluded that baby Thummel is a week ahead of schedule as far as we knew it.
Because I wasn't sure when I was ovulating, I had gone in the month of September for some bloodwork to ensure that I actually was. (The pee stick technology can't always be relied on!) It turns out that I did ovulate, and of course two weeks later we had a positive pregnancy test. This speculation, in hand with the ultrasound measurements, convinced MW that the date could indeed be moved up one week, so the due date is now set for June 13, 2009.
And it's a GIRL! Much to our surprise, the scan was very conclusive that we will be bringing home a precious little girl. I was seriously convinced it was a boy from the day I read it on the Chinese Birth Chart (wrong!), and others also thought it was a boy based on how I am carrying a little low. Turns out I have an anterior placenta (planted in front instead of back) so this could be the reason. And of course I wasn't sick, but neither were my Mom or sister, and they both had girls.
But I had a dream on Thursday night that we had a girl sitting in her carseat waiting to go home from the hospital and we couldn't decide on a name. Go figure!
I'll post baby's first portraits as soon as I can get them scanned.
